The Coveteur co-founder goes back to her designer roots: Erin Kleinberg Fall 2014
A week after Toronto Fashion Week, one of the city’s fashion stars made her return to the runway after a three-year hiatus. In case you need a refresh, The Coveteur co-founder Erin Kleinberg used to be a designer. Back in the mid-oughts, she became a bright young thing when stars like Mischa Barton, Blake Lively and Kim Kardashian were spotted in her low-key wares. For the next few years, she sold worldwide at Holt Renfrew, Barney’s, Nordstrom and others until putting the collection on hold to dominate the industry in another way: creeping the designer-filled closets of fashion’s elite.
Fast-forward to today and Kleinberg is back to her former steez, re-launching her brand of casual separates for the everygirl. “I missed creating and dressing my friends. I have been yearning to get back to it for some time now,” she says. “I love seeing women wearing my clothing and making them feel awesome.”
On Tuesday night at The Spoke Club, she showed an 18-look collection of nubby sweaters, maxi dresses, leather-trimmed tunics and sequined separates. As evidenced by the friend-filled crowd, the collection will do best with girls who dig fashion, but aren’t to be called upon for the correct spelling of Demeulemeester. “It’s really about effortless chic,” she says.
Uniqlo opening in IsToronto Rumour mill
Toronto is a hotbed for international retailers. That, and international retailer rumours. From the real (Nordstrom) to the still TBD (Bloomingdales), there always seems to be something to talk about. While we don’t like to pander to gossip and industry rumblings (or maybe we do), this latest rumour is too good to ignore. Japanese retailer Uniqlo is apparently in serious talks with Canadian retailers in an attempt to bring their famous $79 cashmere sweaters to our very own Yorkdale Shopping Centre. We don’t wanna jinx it, but we’re seriously giddy.
For those unfamiliar, the Japanese-based megabrand has become an international success hawking fashionable, yet not necessarily trendy, goods for men, women and kids. Their trademark is classic styles, in a variety of colours at an affordable price — the kind of wardrobe staples we have all come to rely on. Sound familiar? The Financial Post noted that the line might face some fierce competition from the much-loved Canadian brand Joe Fresh, or other wallet and wardrobe friendly brands like GAP and H&M. With occasional collaborations with famed style makers such as Ines de la Fressange and Jil Sander, and the upcoming Pharrell collection, the company has a knack for producing highly covetable and timeless pieces that will still be fashionable in five years time. Can the same be said for that impulse buy of that Peter Pilotto x Target vertigo inducing body-con dress? Not likely.
As most other international companies have done, Yorkdale would be prime real estate for Uniqlo’s debut, due to it’s proximity to the downtown core but also the ever-wealthier GTA. Reports are suggesting either a store within the proposed Nordstrom space or an adjacent storefront in the mall. To be continued.
March's most fashionable:Emma Watson
This March Emma Watson has graced the Oscars ceremony, posed at the red carpet premiere of Noah in Berlin, Madrid and New York, squeezed in a sitting with talk show host David Letterman, staged Twitter takeover for MTV and sat patiently during a separate Twitter Q&A. A lady of leisure this 23-year-old is not.
Throughout the press junkets, photo calls and premieres Watson has retained her reputation as an interesting one to watch in the style sphere (she wasn't asked to guest edit fashion glossy Wonderland back in January for no reason).
Sure she might play it safe with heartbreakingly beautiful dresses by Wes Gordon and Oscar de la Renta, but there is always a carefully calculated twist to her looks. Ear cuffs, which Watson started championing during the 2013 promo tour of The Bling Ring, continue to punctuate her outfits, while multiple silver rings creep up her fingers (the nails of which have been painted a don't-mess-with-me black).

Even the actress's airport looks have garnered nods of approval in Telegraph Towers. Where other actresses hide behind bumper shades and forgiving overcoats (who knows what's going on underneath?), Watson has given us satin skater skirts, chic knitwear, beige macs and many a polished brogue.
Lest not forget that the former Harry Potter starlet also remains a die hard fan of the jumpsuit; a tricky garment to execute but which suits her petite frame down to a T.
